Malaybalay Runners at the Cebu City Marathon 2014

Seven members of Malaybalay Runners team, including this blogger, joined the Cebu City Marathon (CCM) 2014 last January 12 in the Queen City of the South. CCM has been considered as one of the best races in the country and was recently accredited as a certified course by the International Association of Athletic Federations (IAAF) and Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS). This year's edition of the CCM was handled by Runrio, known for staging world-class races mostly in Manila.

I joined the 21K distance with my wife Malou and our running couple friends James and Blessie Paulican. Our teammates Steve Mark Intong, Edmond Tilanduca and Stewart Lagorra went for the full marathon.

The rain that showered during the race day did not dampen the spirit of more than 2,000 runners. It was my fourth straight time to join the CCM and I could say that the 2014 edition was the best so far. Gun start for both distances were scheduled an hour earlier than the previous years and there were plenty of hydration stations serving ice cold water, sponges and Gatorade. Traffic was well controlled, the race marshals were all friendly and helpful, and bands, dancers and cheerers along the route made the run more festive and lively. There were also lots of freebies before and after the race. Aside from the high quality singlet and race bib, the race kit contained a Runrio water bottle. The fully loaded loot bag given after the race contained a Finisher's Shirt, Runrio sports towel, Safeguard sports towel, Safeguard soap, hand soap and body wash, mineral water, Gatorade and a Milo Overload sachet. And the guitar-design finisher's medal (for finishers of both categories) really rock!

With the successful staging of Cebu Marathon 2014, I am sure more runners are already looking forward to joining CCM next year.

  1. Top venue for a wedding or party! Beautiful decorations, amazing food (better than most restaurants). It's a great modern space with a breath taking view from the rooftop.
