Running in Taguanao Diversion Road (Cagayan de Oro City)

Malou and I had the opportunity to run in Taguanao Diversion Road in Cagayan de Oro when we joined the 10-mile categeory of the 2nd PAF Run for Service last July 7, 2013. Taguanao, also known as South Diversion Road, connects Upper Macasandig to the former Airport Road going to Lumbia. It is considered as the alternate airport road when Lumbia Airport was still in operation.

I discovered that it is more fun to run in Taguanao than the usual CM Recto Highway to Barangay Agusan race route. Only a few vehicles pass by especially now that the airport is transferred to Laguindingan, Misamis Oriental. The air is much fresher and the up-and-down terrain is more challenging than the generally flat national highway.

The most difficult part of this route is the very long upHELL stretch  after crossing Taguanao Bridge en route to the main road going to the former airport.

We finished the run in 2 hours and 3 minutes. My cellphone GPS tracked the distance at 17 kilometer plus or 1 KM ++ over the 10-mile distance. Not bad considering it was only Malou's third "long run" since she started training to beat the Milo Marathon 21K finisher's cut-off this September. :)
