Mindanao Week of Peace Friendship Run (Malaybalay City)

Participants before the start of the race.

The 2011 Mindanao Week of Peace Friendship Run was one truly enjoyable fun run. It was held last December 4 in Malaybalay City with Start and Finish Line at the Freedom Park (officially called City Covered Court). What made this event unique from other fun run I have joined was its "team running" concept. There are no individual categories and participants must form their own respective teams and finish the race together.

Beach Running in Camotes

 Self-timed pic

More than a month ago, my wife and I went to Camotes Islands to celebrate our fifth wedding anniversary. Camotes is a group of islands which form part of Cebu province. It is about 2 hours away from Danao City via ferry boat ride.

I'm in The Bull Runner Magazine!

Wahahaha!!! The letter I sent to The Bull Runner was published in the recent issue of the running magazine. Check out the TBR Inbox section of the November-December 2011 issue to see my letter along with the pic of me and my wife taken during the BCB Fun Run 2 last September. Though my letter was not chosen as the winning entry (I could have won a Nike Shoes!), it still feel great to see my name and photo published in one of the country's most popular running magazine.

Run United Cagayan de Oro: My PR Breaking 21K Run

It was another Personal Record breaking half-marahton run for me at the Run United Regional Series held in Cagayan de Oro City last Sunday, November 21, 2011. Employing a Run-Walk interval of 4:1 (4 minutes running followed by 1 minute of wak break) right from the start up to the last 2 kilometers, I managed to finish at 2:13:30 (official chip time). I really felt great because I achieved my goal of improving my previous 21K best of 2:17:07 which I attained during the National Milo Marathon also in Cagayan de Oro last October 16 this year.

Run United Cagayan de Oro: 2 Days to Go

The Run United Cagayan de Oro Leg will be held on November 27, 2011 or only two days from now. I sure am excited to join this run for three reasons:

1. I've read so much rave about this run series organized by Rio Dela Cruz and Unilab. Based on comments from previous legs held in other parts of the country, the race is well-organized and some even called it "world class".

Dole Fun Run 2011 (Malaybalay City)

The Pulaguy Blogger leading the pack? Hahahaha!  (Photo from Arnel Quirino)

To celebrate its 43rd years in business, Dole Stanfilco held a fun run last November 19, 2011 in Malaybalay City. There are only two categories, 3K and 5K. The event was lively and fairly well-organized. A live band entertained the participants and giveaways such as fresh Dole bananas, canned juice, mixed fruits, bread and water were given to the finishers.

Three runners from Bukidnon were among the Top 20 finishers of the 25th Mt. Kinabalu  International Climbathon held last October 22-23, 2011 in Ranau, Sabah, Malaysia. Run United Cagayan de Oro Happening on Nov. 27, 2011!!!

When I joined the 2011 Kagay-an Festival Run in Cagayan de Oro last August, I was able to talk to one of the event's sponsors. During our brief chat, he told me that there will be a Run United Regional Series in Cagayan de Oro this November. Run United is a nationwide run series organized by no less than celebrity runner, coach and race organizer Rio Dela Cruz.

Since then, I have been constanly checking the website to verify if Run United in  Cagayan de Oro is really pushing through. However, the race was not in RunRio's event calendar so I was having doubt if it will really happen.

My Best 21K at the 35th Milo Marathon in Cagayan de Oro City

The 35th National Milo Marathon Cagayan de Oro Leg was successfuly held last Sunday, October 16, 2011 in the City of Golden Frienship. My wife and I are among the more than 8,000 runners who joined the country's biggest, grandest and longest running race.

We arrived at the starting line outside Pelaez Sports Center in Velez Street at around 4:30 AM. The area was just a short walk from Philtown Hotel where we stayed. After wishing my wife good luck in her first 10k run, I immediately joined the bunch of 21k runners assembling at the starting line. I met my fellow Malaybalay Runners and we wished each other luck for the gruelling half-marathon ahead.

Without any countdown, the 21K run promptly started at 5:00 AM. From Velez Street, we made a left turn at the National Highway, headed west towards the direction of Opol, Misamis Oriental.

Race Photos and Results: Malandog Ridge Trail Run (Malaybalay City, Bukidnon)

The Malandog Ridge 10K Trail Run was held last September 24, 2011 in Malaybalay City, Bukidnon. I did not run in this race but instead volunteered as one of the marshals and photographers. I was assigned at the trail's peak which did not only gave me the vantage point of shooting the runners in their ascent, it also gave me the opportunity to revisit the spot where the view deck known as Tabios Tower once stood. The view deck was once a favorite hiking destination during my high school years as it offered an overlooking view of the whole town of Malaybalay.

The Road to My First Full Marathon

After giving it much thought, I finally decided to train for my first full marathon. When I started running a year ago, I never thought that one day I would aim to run for 42K. I always tell myself that with the limited time I have being a family man and a full-time employee, 10K would be the farthest distance I could run.

Valencia City (Bukidnon) Fiesta Run 2011

The Valencia City Fiesta Run held last August 28, 2011 in Valencia City, Bukidnon was a not-so-organized race that left many runners complaining. As I observed, the people behind this run were not that experienced in organizing races, probably because running events are not that popular yet in this city.

My Long and Slow 21K Run: Kagay-an Festival Run 2011(Cagayan de Oro City)

I joined the Kagay-an Festival Run Year 2 in Cagayan de Oro City last Sunday, August 21, 2011. The run was held as part of the Cagayan de Oro Fiesta Celebration. A week before this run, I climbed Mount  Kitanglad for the first time together with some of my friends. The tough hike resulted to muscle pains in my legs and it was only three days after the climb that I felt a lot better. For that reason, I wasn't able to do a long run prior to this race.

My Next Run: Kagay-an Festival Run Year 2 (Cagayan de Oro City)

Yesterday, I registered for the Kagay-an Festival Run Year 2 at Max's Restaurant in Cagayan de Oro City. This run is part of the Kagay-an Festival celebration and will be held this Sunday, August 21, 2011. I am running in the 21K category (my second time) and hopefully I will improve my time from my first half-marathon run which is 2 hours and 20 minutes.

This is the race route of the 2011 Kagay-an Festival Run:

Registration is still on going, until August 20 at Max's Restaurant and La Cabana Spa in Cagayan de Oro City.

My last three runs have all been on trails and I am excited to run back on the road again!

Running Through Hills and Rivers: The 1st Intavas-Kibenton Eco-Trail Fun Run (Impasug-ong, Bukidnon)

The 1st Intavas-Kibenton Eco-Trail Fun Run was another tough and challenging race which I joined last Sunday, August 7, 2011. The route is only about 6 kilometers, from Sitio Intavas in Barangay La Fortuna up to Barangay Kibenton, Impasug-ong , Bukidnon. It was really, really tough as we have to passed through up and down terrains, muddy, slippery and rocky dirt roads. Along the way we climbed three hills and crossed five rivers of the Atugan Canyon Basin.
